Not on their terms

Those folks in the circle.

I’ve been spending quite a bit of time with both the team I coach and have had the opportunity to spend some time observing LSU swimming as a fan who also coaches.  What’s been amazing to observe is the immense amount of time the coaches give to their teams. I’ve been lucky in that I’ve been able to coach mostly on my terms. What I’ve seen from the next level is that it’s never on your terms. It’s on the requirement of the job.

Most things we do in life are this way. As much as we want to do it our way, me especially, some things in life take a certain amount of commitment to do the right way.

The longer I am involved in coaching the more and more I am amazed by the massive time commitment that high school and college coaches dedicate to making other people’s kids better, sometimes to the detriment of their own family time.

So today. It’s short and sweet. Thank a coach of your kid and take some time to go check out the elite level sports you have in your area. It’s truly great.
