Eff failure.

It seems like everything you read from entrepreneurs and current high achievers is that we should all fail a lot, because apparently, this is the only way we learn. I’m here to say quite loudly. “Shut the fuck up!” I have failed. Hard. And there’s always a chance for more of it. The surest way to get to failure is to talk about it ad nauseum. We are what we say we are in a lot of ways and if we go about through our days with a readiness to fail. Guess what happens. TA DAH!! Failure.

I am one of the least risk averse people you will meet. I believe we can achieve a lot and am willing to sacrifice things to achieve something bigger than the everyday.  This means I’m open to the possibility that my endeavors could fail. But damn if I sit around looking for it. This is what a lot of messaging sounds like these days.

I’ve also failed big and learned from it, but I fully believe I could have learned those same lessons through success, and that process would have taught me how to be more successful. I mean that’s the goal, right?

I understand the point in learning through failure. That we can either choose to fail and quit or fail and move forward, be resilient, get stronger. So yes failure can lead to improvement.

I can also know that sometimes failure doesn’t teach us a damn thing. That we make the same mistakes over and over again.

If there’s any piece of advice I’ve been trying to take in lieu of “failing forward” it’s the following.

Stop and look at what choices you’re making. Slow down before launching into them headlong.

Plan more and once you’ve planned. Plan some more.

Look for your blind spots and have someone else look at your situation for you. They are always there and someone else can see them better, hence why you are blind to them.

Find a mentor of some sort to answer questions you can’t find the answers to.

And most importantly. Visualize success and what success looks like.

I still need work on all these things so I’ll be slugging it out with you.

Best of luck.
