And on the 101st day

It’s days like these that I’m like, fuck it. Nothing good to say so I’m not saying crap. There’s enough hot garbage permeating the world. Don’t add to that. Then brilliance occurs.

I’m kidding. It hasn’t occurred yet but we are only 42 words in.

Back in December of 2014 I decided I was going to blog for 27 days. It made the last 100 days look like a Pulitzer Prize winning effort. The last 7 posts read like glorified status updates. “Drinking coffee in Costa Rica, fucking snake!!!! Going to surf.”  Like how I snuck in that sick brag about being in Costa Rica?  I’m talented like that.

Today I’m lucky to be spending a few days at the beach. I’m not a big fan of sitting on it but I love being on the water. I grew up literally in and on the water. My mom has me in swimming lessons at 6 mths old and not too far after I lived in a pack n play in the bottom of a sailboat as my parents raced from Detroit to Buffalo across Lake Erie.

While the sand part of the beach isn’t my thing, the ocean is. Just the roar of it is calming in a different way. It make me feel for people born and raised in Kansas. I mean please. Give me a corn field equivalent. I’ll wait.

If I could change one thing in my life it would be to live by the ocean. I grew up .1 of a mike from it. I could walk to the beach with my windsurfer and head out. After that we also had a Hobie Cat which was probably my favorite. That thing would go 20-30 mph and sometimes you’d flip it forwards (pitch poling) and think you’d die. It was awesome.

My wife and I sometimes discuss where we would rather be. Beach or mountains. Most times I actually say mountains, but that’s because there’s so many different opportunities to do outside things, combined with the fact that it will improve your athletic ability and the weather is better.

That being said. I’d sail around the world tomorrow. I’ll do another long ocean swim and I long for a time when I have access to surfing.

Per the usual. Things start one place and end in another.
