The coffee doesn’t taste right.

Some mornings, despite setting the coffee pot up the exact same way as I always do, the coffee doesn’t taste right. I don’t know why. Could be me. Could be the water. Either way. It’s not how I want to start the day.

How often does a small (giant) injustice like this set your day into a downward spiral. Like we are all one thing away from saying “welp, fuck it. Today’s done.”  I mean it’s 5:17 a.m.  Surely you have more staying power than this.

Moods are prone to spirals. Upward and downward and you can control both. If you didn’t read yesterday’s post, start there by reading a little about “stepping out.”  Short version, take a step away from yourself and look at the reality of what’s happening. If I can add a step today, once you’ve stepped away and assessed the first world problems of your current reality. Stop. Stop and smile. Or laugh. Or just pull up your big girl panties and agree to keep on keeping on.

Yesterday I dropped my phone on inside my car and cracked the screen. Onto a rubber  floor mat. I could have gotten all hot and bothered and “wtf” about this, but really. What was done was done. I instead thought to myself. “I’ve dropped my phone 78 times face down on the concrete and had nothing happen. I guess it was a matter of time.”  I carried on with my day.

When the coffee doesn’t taste right or a small thing happens to you. Learn to check yourself. The world doesn’t have it out for you and you can control a hell of a lot more than you think you can.

Put on another pot, pull up your panties and agree to fight the good fight.
