Follow ups

One of the challenges of writing every day has been the struggle of following up a pretty good post. This morning I am feeling that in spades. But the first way to give yourself a chance is to just start. There’s home runs and there’s manufacturing runs. Both count the same when the game ends.

A lot of us will never do the things we really think we want to because we won’t launch without everything being perfect. A finished product, all shiny and new. This is the big mistake. If you look back at over time at things that are a success now, you’ll find that almost none of them came with a flourish, but instead gained momentum over time.

Ignoring yesterday, this morning starts April, and the trip to tomorrow is already underway. Next thing you know we will be in 2020. Consider this post your every couple of weeks reminder to start.

I spoke with a friend last week about a famous entrepreneur guy who has an opinion on everything and who seemingly force feeds it over and over and over.  Some people say that I remind them of him. It’s at once a compliment and an insult as he’s super annoying to me. The takeaway though is that the messages don’t change. The delivery and the messenger does.

We have to hear things over and over because they usually don’t take the first time. We know we should do “x” but we get caught in negative loops of self doubt and we push it back again. Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow. But if yesterday’s post taught you nothing the reminder is that there’s no “tomorrow guarantee”. Everything can change in an instant.

So we start another week today with an opportunity to make change. To look forward instead of dwelling on the past.

Progress over perfection.
