CHASING PROFUNDITY

Sometimes I let off the gas because I feel like I’m trying too hard. That everything has to be some sort of huge takeaway that changes lives. A constant quest for more when truly less is what’s needed. Not everything has to change the world, we need ditches too.

It’s a part of this story, “my so called story”. People and life are complicated. I sometimes feel like a Rubik’s Cube that not only needs to be solved for color but also each square has to be put into numerical order. The thought of that just made me nauseous.

I do this for me and for you. Striking a balance of what that looks like is (insert catchy analogy here). Some days I want to just give you a high five and send you on your way.

To be clear. This is all self imposed. I don’t “have” to do this. This morning I’m just relaying that if everyday were a motivational masterpiece, I’d be finishing up on my back porch overlooking the Rockies instead of walking out of my back door into the belching stench and seemingly impossible heat and humidity that is south Louisiana. Maybe I should be trying harder.

We are all learning along the way. Or should be. I shouldn’t need to tell you that chasing profundity is even a thing, but the mornings are for unpacking and this was what was put in last into the suitcase and zipped up, poised to pop when the zipper was undone in the wee hours of the night, or morning, depending on your sleep cycle.

The best things to hear are the most simple. At least I think so. I’m a believer that we can all do most anything we set our minds to. Some take longer and even those we fall short of, shape us. As complicated as I made life out to be in an above sentence the more simple we should strive for it to be. This is my roadmap. I’ll draw the shortcuts.

We (I) need the simplicity. To get it we need to step back and gaze away from the wheel in front of us. In cycling, you can ride inches from the bike in front of you while going 25 mph. When you’re tired you can lock onto that wheel in front of you and follow that next bike straight into the ditch or run right into it. You need to pay attention but you also need to watch the nuance of the rider ahead of the one ahead of you. Gazing 3 bikes forward to see where the head of the snake is taking you can help avoid catastrophic wrecks. Complicated but simple. Look up. Gaze forward.

In this quest to unpack my thoughts and fears and short comings and successes, it’s important to share honestly and to write what comes. I also have to do what I tell me to do. To try and simplify to get through to tomorrow.

Simple is profound if you can get there. When you feel that focus it’s incredibly calming. Sometimes you just have to keep reaching for it. Baby steps style.
