More Stupid(er)
What’s true and real to me is that the longer I’m on this planet the less it appears any of us know about anything. I won’t make a list and that statement is not definitive. Maybe it’s just a recent feeling or maybe it’s a tying together of the realization that common sense has been replaced by “I saw it on the internet”. Regardless. It’s how things seem.
Or maybe it’s a feeling of collective ignorance about things that are playing out in front of our faces in real-time.
Maybe it’s not ignorance. Maybe it’s actually helplessness to change the word. So I’m just going to keep on keeping on.
I say all this because, of course I’m equally guilty on some levels. We all are.
I’m no doctor and this may doom me to the most violent of Coronavirus deaths recorded so far, but yesterday I learned that people are buying and hoarding bottled water. Who decided that this was the way to protect ourselves in the event of a loss of corona-cabin-pressure. Since when have viruses been transferred via the water system?! Yet there I was at Costco, playing logic games with the management.
We were there to buy water for a race this weekend. A full pallet’s worth. We go to the back and the guy in charge of the loading says “you can’t buy a pallets worth because we need to have it available for all our members.” We responded with “well they told us up front we could.” He says “well the. I guess you can.” Back up front we go where they say “we can’t sell you a pallet.” We say “okay. What’s the limit on the number of cases we can buy?” They say. “There is no limit.” We say, “then we will take a pallet.”
Checking with the manager ensued. We actually only needed 30 cases but were willing to buy 18 more to make it easy. In the end we got the 30 we needed and what’s true is that we are all a little more stupider because of it.
We didn’t attempt to stock up on Clorox wipes.
