Collapse?

I was passing through the doom and gloom of the internet’s this morning and had an eery thought. What if this is all some higher power’s way of saying. “Just fucking stop you idiots!”

Full disclosure. I’m not religious. I’ve always wanted to believe more but it’s just never taken for me. Maybe something will occur during this time of insanity  to  change that. I am actually open to it.

The other thing I’ve seen over the last week or so is the realization and  vocalizing by one person after another how great it is to see people outside. Exercising. Spending time with their families. Slowing down.

As a business owner I am watching my worlds collapse and while this will be painful for a long time to come, I’m less panicked than one would think. While there is a move to help  save restaurants and small business, perhaps a culling of the herd was needed. Maybe I needed culling?  I don’t have the answers but the over saturation of retail and more more more already seemed unsustainable. I’m beginning to believe that we may should fall all the way down, get up and then decide what to do.

I was scrambling to get out the door today. To chase. To hustle. Then I read one post that jarred me into writing this. It was something to the point of Earth has a fever caused by bacteria. We are the bacteria. That’s paraphrased and and a bit harsh but it made me think. “Well, this will create a reduction in carbon emissions and that will be better for the planet.”  China’s smog went away in a couple of weeks of shut down. Weird.

Could this be some higher power saying. “Hey, y’all are fucking this up and I’m going to force your hand?”  I mean who’s to say it isn’t?  Ye with more faith than I can make arguments for or agains.

Don’t worry, I’m not getting all hippy dippy- religo-metaphysic-global- warmingal on you. It just made me stop and think.

On a day when I’ll likely have to shutter one business, the first thoughts I had were “Could this be for the better?” It was at once calming.

I had an account when I used to sell running shoes that made a connection like this as well (not from an environment standpoint). He was out walking or riding and noticed the same things. People with their families in the midst of calamity, enjoying each other. He said, and I quote.

“As I rode tonight-in a week I’ve barely slept, worried about all of this, it was the moment when I saw a father and son playing catch together, that I realized everything was going to be okay.”

Yes Rob. It is going to be alright.

Talk to me tomorrow.

I’ll be sure to know less by then.
