MAINTAIN

MAINTAIN

Today I wanted to write a little bit about change. About how easy it is to start and how hard it can be to maintain it.

I won't spout the readily available stats about how many NY resolutions fall flat. And fast. Regardless of the reasons, the flourish of positive resolve we have on the 1st can disappear by the 4th.

A lot of times it's because of trying to do too much. We try and tackle a diet, exercise, stopping procrastination, and three other things and it's too much to tackle at once. Usually all of these things are added when we are off from work/school and we have time to focus. We haven't thought through (read:planned) for what happens when doing the thing we decided means both getting up an hour earlier AND going to be an hour earlier so the former is a possible change.

The same planning applies to eating better and tackling organizational skills.

Over the holidays I vowed to make some big changes. On January 2nd, I awoke stressed and spun all day. I saw first hand how easy it was to just slip back into a negative spin it is. So that night I stopped before bed and planned the next day, which had 5x the things needed.  The exercise soothed my brain before bed, I slept better and awoke and executed the day.

This goes for everything. Put out your clothes to exercise the next day. If your day is stacked, shorten a workout and prioritize what's got to get done. Move things around to later in the day or to the next day as needed.

Finally, I've already said this twice THIS YEAR.

1. DECIDE to just do it. To BECOME.  Pull yourself out of your head and remove emotions from what you want to do and do it. Period.

2. REMIND YOURSELF DAILY of what you want to become and....

3. PLAN on how you can be successful today THE NOGHT BEFORE.

All of this can be found in some sort of language in damn near every habit/change/self help book out there. I'm not inventing some new found three step process.  The difference is I hopefully have your ear, and you listen.

BE GREAT TODAY!
