NYE/BELIEVE

NYE/BELIEVE

I never know when I wake up if the words will take me, or what they'll take me towards. The sparseness of them this past year has actually stopped me from trying each day. You'd think it would be the opposite. That lack would produce more effort. But if you think about it. Lack mostly inspires lack. It's why our best intentions on personal change are so easy to derail.  We get a month in and miss a day. Which leads to two, which leads to the feeling that we'd never been nor will ever be the type of person that had done the thing in question in the first place.

Over the years I've come to cherish this time of year. When the world slows briefly and there's time for reflection. For planning. While New Year, New Me is a stretch. I too look to January as a time to reset. To improve. This year is no different.

I love the optimism of this time of year. The feeling that anything is possible. Even at my lowest, this time of year inspires me to consider what being my best looks like. The slow down allows me to consider the actions needed that will produce results, and the hard flip of the calendar gives me a start date.

If you've read anything from me you know I love to encourage starting. Of motion. Usually towards, but anything even nearer to change is good. You didn't unravel this far to fix it in a moment. This year. Keep starting. Keep moving towards.

Anything is possible.

I met with my friend Steve yesterday and we talked extensively about me. If you've read anything from me you'll know I love me some me. Well. Kind of. During this session I laid out everything I do/am responsible for, and where I am with each. Towards the end we dug into a concept I am baking out called ZERO COMPROMISE. While it sounds like a daunting and unrealistic approach to life I have landed on it being a really forgiving way to refocus my life.  (more on this later). When we got to the end of things Steve said he thought applying that ideal to the many things I do would help me cull out what I might change and reduce in the future. That it may show me some things to eliminate. Instead I left the meeting filled with resolve. That through a zero compromise approach, I could maybe slough away the mundane of some of the work needed and find the reasons I started doing the thing in the first place. It left me feeling that anything is possible.

Anything. Is. Possible.

This used to be me all the time and there's an electricity surrounding saying that out loud. And better yet. Believing it in every bone in my body.

It feels great.

You should try it.

Go ahead.

Suspend your disbelief over the next couple of days and think about the greatest things you've wanted to accomplish in your life. Allow yourself to believe that it's possible.  See yourself being that and what your life would look like. Feel that?  That's the electricity I'm talking about.

//

Of course the thing you envisioned has steps and plans but everything starts with belief.

As I sit here in the dark, the soft glow of the Christmas tree still lighting the room, good coffee and a dog in my lap, my wish for you this year is that you BELIEVE.

BELIEVE.

BELIEVE.
