IT’S ALL DOOMED!!

Every day I read another headline. “Life as we knew it will never be the same!”

“The auto industry will be forever changed!”

“30% of all restaurants will close!!”

Forgive me while I suspend my disbelief.

Let me preface this by saying I own two restaurants and am a part owner of an event company, both of which have been shuttered by the happenings of the last 60 days. Let me also go on record as saying that I think things have a long way to go until we hit rock bottom. Let me finally say, if we believe all the doom and gloom, it will become.

For the first month of this shutdown I believed it. Most small businesses are cash flow based and don’t have the reserves to make it through one to two weeks of being closed. No sales equals game over. I couldn’t fathom six weeks being closed and then trying to reopen. It was beyond anything I had considered and so I too bought into the hype. There was no way I’d recover.

Then I didn’t buy in.

There is no way to know what’s going to happen and the alternatives have just as much of an opportunity of happening as does shuttering for good and moreover, what I believe has just as much an influence on this as what some articles conjecture on my industry has. They know no more than me. They have just chosen to decide there’s no way we will make it and shit headlines sell.

Will it be hard? (TWSS) Yes. Of course. Will there be a change in the model?  Maybe. But I am choosing to believe I will not collapse, and belief is powerful.
